When a woman struggles to overcome adversity in life, it has far-reaching effects that impact family, community and society at large. This is why The Live Again Foundation, through its numerous programmes, is giving hope to broken, abused and distressed women so they can start afresh, rediscover purpose and begin to rebuild their lives.

Convener of the outreach and Director of the Live Again Foundation, Enifome Ogbimi

One such programme — The Live Again Outreach — was held on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 at the Combo Hall, Lagos State Television (LTV), Ikeja. The maiden edition of the outreach attracted over 500 women who have lived through traumatic experiences that have held them captive, making them feel hopeless about the future.

From the young and old, single and married, and separated and divorced women, attendees from diverse walks of life travelled from various states across Nigeria.

My experience, my past and the topics prompted me to attend this program; said Wumi Obanla, one of the participants.

When asked about the goal of this soul-lifting gathering of women, the convener of the outreach and Director of the Live Again Foundation, Enifome Ogbimi passionately explained; The purpose of the outreach is to empower women to heal from their painful past, reengineer their mind-set, rebuild their self-esteem and confidence and rediscover their true purpose in life. We want to help women live again in all aspects of their lives she added.

The life-changing event was carefully put together with inspiring presentations from notable speakers and professionals. It also had breakout sessions, medical screenings, massage therapy, makeup sessions, gifts, business grants and legal counsel and advice.

Mind-Shifting and Life-Changing sessions

Cross section of the audience

The curtain-raiser was a deeply moving presentation by the Convener of the outreach titled, “How I began to live again: Turning pain to purpose,” where she recounted her emotional journey from despair to rebirth.

She characterised it by saying,

A lot of women are going through abuse, pain or difficult situation and find it hard to live again. Some of them don’t even have anyone to talk to. They’re afraid of being judged, that nobody will believe them. But I believe them because I’ve been through it.

Dr Catherine Onyejiaka

TEDx speaker, author and communication and professional development coach, Dr Catherine Onyejiaka cranked up the energy with an authoritative and thought-provoking talk on “Finding your voice again.” During her session, she pointed out that,

“There’s something deposited in you that needs to be harnessed that is needed by the world. You need to understand that you’re more than what you think you are.”

Dr Catherine Onyejiaka

Then it was the turn of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) — the organization backed up by law to cater to issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse in Lagos state. The representative of the anti-abuse watchdog introduced the agency and its activities to the audience.

She outlined the rights of women and how the agency helps victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse, emphasizing the need to speak up rather than remain lip-sealed, silenced, suppressed and oppressed.

Since one of the goals of the outreach is to help women live again in all aspects of their lives including financially, it was proper to have the next two sessions on monetizing your talents, knowledge and skills delivered by Enifome; and making, managing and multiplying money — delivered by Chinedu Akpunonu.

Here’s what Chinedu had to say about the event;

One thing I know this conference will do for a lot of women is give them hope.

Beyond these powerful sessions, there were also breakout sessions on emotional intelligence, parenting, relationships, marriage and business strategy.

Speakers at the Live Again Outreach

All the sessions were carefully designed to help women rediscover their purpose, boost their confidence and take the first steps towards reclaiming their lives. The attendees can begin to overcome self-doubt and embark on a journey of personal growth and transformation.

A sprinkle of fun
To fire up the already ignited event, the organisers of the outreach partnered with several individuals and organisations to create a fun-filled and supportive experience. The attendees enjoyed free spa and massage therapy, hair makeover, photoshoot sessions and gifts.

They also got free career and legal counselling, resume reviews, and medical screenings and medications. Each participant went home with a Live Again pack which included the 12-Step Guide to Living Again — a transformative book to guide women through the rejuvenating process of living again.

Empowerment with business grants
Aside from the freebies, a total of twenty women received business grants of N100,000 each. One mother got free a business name registration as well as N200,000 to support her business.

This empowerment initiative aims to provide recipients with support to launch or grow their businesses and transform adversities into opportunities for success and financial freedom.

Deborah Aderele, one of the recipients of the business grants described in her own words;

Winning this grant was like… wow! This is just a confirmation that, yes… Deborah… go and start that thing you want to do, go and make it better. The world wants to hear your voice.

Another grant recipient, Victoria Adetutu said,

I didn’t see this coming. I’ve been a volunteer teacher for over 2 years teaching children. I wondered when I’m going to reap the rewards of my work. Today, I can see God at work.

The host and moderator of the outreach, Presh Talker also had this to say;

“This event is not just one of those events where you come to and have plenty of talk. It’s an event that brings more life to all women. And I believe every woman who walked in here today will not go out the same. They’ll live again.”

Participants Refresh and Refuel for the Future
The maiden Live Again outreach exceeded all expectations, delivering a profoundly life-changing experience that made a lasting difference in the lives of the participants.

This landmark event was the trigger the attendees needed to rediscover purpose and find a new meaning to life — a reason to Live Again. They left the programme with a new mindset, a renewed belief in themselves knowing that they belong to a supporting community in the Live Again movement.

On her final thoughts on the impact of the outreach, the Convener of the outreach and Director of the Live Again Foundation, Enifome Ogbimi said;

What I see here is, a multiplier effect of women helping other women live again. Because when you empower a woman, you empower other women. Helping a woman live again is helping a generation to live again.

Beyond the Outreach
The Live Again Foundation holds post-outreach webinars and business strategy classes for women. It has also scheduled mentorship sessions for grant recipients to help with the judicious use of the funds.

The foundation will continue its work in helping women rise from the ashes and live their dreams. To learn more about the works of the Live Again Foundation, check them out on their active social media accounts on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Linkedin.

The anticipated Scripps National Spelling Bee, USA, has officially arrived in Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s educational history. The program, which has celebrated over a century of academic excellence, is now open to Nigerian students aged 8–13, offering them an unparalleled opportunity to compete on a global stage alongside their peers.

The official media launch, set to take place in Lagos, heralds the introduction of the “Spell It, Nigeria” program—an affiliate of the renowned Scripps National Spelling Bee, USA. This debut edition is a collaborative effort between the Young Educators Foundation, Lucid Education Initiative, and the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee, USA. The program is proudly supported by our title sponsor, Indomie Noodles, and co-sponsors, Checkers Custard, whose contributions have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life.

Why Spell It, Nigeria Matters:
The Spell It, Nigeria program stands out as a ground-breaking initiative that will see Nigeria compete for the first time in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the United States, joining Ghana as the only two African countries in this prestigious competition. The maiden edition is open to schools across Nigeria until early October 2024, with the grand prize being an all-expense-paid trip to the United States for the ultimate winner to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May 2025.

A Modern Approach to Learning:
Designed with modern educational needs in mind, Spell It, Nigeria is 75% online-based, providing students with the flexibility and accessibility to participate from various regions of Nigeria. This digital approach ensures that even students in remote areas can benefit from this world-class program. The online component includes a robust curriculum that enhances vocabulary, spelling, and public speaking skills, preparing students for the global stage.

Partnerships and Support:
This program’s success is built on strong partnerships, and we are honoured to have the support and presence of key institutions such as Lucid Education Initiative, The American Business Council of Nigeria, and Rotary Int’l District 9112, among others. Their involvement underscores the importance of educational excellence and global exposure for Nigerian students.

Registration and More Information:
Parents and schools interested in enrolling their children in this historic program are encouraged to visit our official website for registration details and more information.

The 2024 Creative Arts Emmys kicked off with a spectacular night of awards, setting the stage for a weekend of celebration on television. Held annually the weekend before the Primetime Emmys, the two-day event shines a spotlight on technical and artistic excellence, with a staggering 99 awards given across various categories.

On Saturday, the honours focused on variety programming, nonfiction, and reality shows. Among the standout winners were “Saturday Night Live,” Angela Bassett, and Alan Cumming, with the ceremony taking place at Los Angeles’ iconic Peacock Theater.

Presenters over the two nights included an eclectic mix of talent, from Olympian B-Boy Victor Montalvo to comedians like Mike Birbiglia, Nikki Glaser, and Tig Notaro, as well as stars like Lucy Liu, Jane Lynch, Fisher Stevens, and Hannah Waddingham.

Angela Bassett had a shining moment as she accepted her first-ever Emmy after nine nominations, winning for her narration of National Geographic’s docuseries “Queens.” “This feels good, really, really good,” she shared in her acceptance speech. “Thank you to National Geographic, Wild Star Film, and the women directors —all women—who brought this incredible story, this incredible docuseries centered on the ferocious and magnificent things in the animal kingdom. I couldn’t be more thrilled and more grateful.”

The ceremony continues today, with more awards presented this evening, and will conclude next Sunday, September 15, with the final 25 awards at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET, hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy.

Lancôme, renowned for its luxurious beauty standards, steps out of its comfort zone to reveal its cheekier side. Get ready to challenge the status quo of artistry, Lancôme is calling on you to get positively creative – and creatively messy.

Makeup’s no place to be perfect. Now’s your time to play. So, say goodbye to colouring between the lines. Because it’s time to #MESSWITHLANCÔME.

With the launch of #MESSWITHLANCÔME, Lancôme moves beyond its signature sophisticated, “no makeup makeup” looks. Bringing a positive injection of excitement and attitude, it’s calling on wit, fun, playfulness and limitless creativity. Think colour, think crazy, think a happy mess: From effortless French girl chic to easy playful chic, #MESSWITHLANCÔME is a powerful new manifesto for Lancôme as it reboots its style and unleashes a whole new attitude.

#MESSWITHLANCÔME represents a new vision for beauty, combining brand artistry with the self-expression of its makeup-loving community, to create a two-way, positive cycle of creativity. Pushing the needle on artistry with current and future trends, the campaign has already kick-started with official brand looks that showcase a messy new Lancôme twist earlier this year. Taking this revolutionary concept to new heights, Lancôme is hosting the #MESSWITHLANCÔME Content Factory in Nigeria.

This exclusive event will bring together a dynamic group of Nigerian ladies for a creative playground where they can review and play with Lancôme products while producing captivating content that redefines all textbook rules. It’s creative, it’s messy, it’s all about play – and the only rule is that there are no rules.

Smudge that liner; smear that shadow. Own your unique energy, as you get messy with the rules. More than mere looks, 2024’s biggest makeup trends are about embracing your originality and unique vibe.

You can easily join the movement by uploading photos or videos of yourself experimenting with makeup in a fun and playful way, and sharing your creations with the hashtag #MESSWITHLANCÔME and get messy!

Colours by Lancôme, creativity by you.

US-based Nigerian designer and creative director of Tesslo, Tessy Oliseh-Amaize, has launched her latest collection, “Africa to the World,” at the 15th anniversary edition of the Ankara Festival in Los Angeles.

The men’s haute couture collection, showcased at the Academy LA on Sunday, September 1, reimagines the Ankara fabric for a global audience.

“My vision is to elevate Ankara into a fabric that transcends cultural borders. I want Ankara outfits to become products that everyone desires to wear, no matter where they are from,” Oliseh-Amaize said in a statement.

“Ankara has become synonymous with Africa, but because of its popularity, it is easy to take the fabric for granted or see it as something you should use as a mere handkerchief, a headwrap, or a muffler. But Ankara is more than that. With this collection, I aim to show the world a side of Ankara they’ve never seen before.”

Oliseh-Amaize, who won Nigeria’s Best Designer Award in 2006, continued, “I want to see someone in Japan confidently wearing Ankara designs, not just because they are stylish, but because they are also functional, comfortable, sophisticated and professionally tailored. Ankara might be seen as just something African, but it can become a global product if it’s embraced by people everywhere. For us at Tesslo, ‘Africa to the World’ isn’t just a tagline, it’s a movement to bring Ankara into every household.”

The new collection blends urban modernity with classic avant-garde styles, drawing inspiration from various African cultural motifs. The designs are influenced by the Guérewol festival of the Wodaabe tribes of Niger and Chad, the regal imagery of the Oba of Benin, the vibrant mmanwu masquerades of southeastern Nigeria, and the rich heritage of Nigeria’s Niger Delta, among others.

Adding to the evening’s glamour was Nigerian-American Hollywood star Folake Olowofoyeku, best known for her role in Bob Hearts Abishola, who co-hosted the event, stunning the audience in a handcrafted Tesslo outfit.

The event, produced by Peter Lentini, also welcomed a host of African Hollywood talent, including co-host actor and comedian Seyi Brown, Sierra Leonean actor; Duain Richmond, actor and producer Kofi Boakye, and President of the African Artists’ Association Francis Onelum, among others.

Medplus, one of Nigeria’s leading pharmaceutical retailers, is proud to announce its upcoming event, Beyond MedPlus: The Glow Fest – A Festival of Beauty & Wellness.

Scheduled to take place on September 20, 2024, at the prestigious Landmark Event Center, this event aims to shine a spotlight on critical women’s health issues, including PCOS, PMS, endometriosis, infertility, and even the burden of combining work and homemaking, which have long been overshadowed by a lack of awareness and education.

The event is not just a celebration but also an urgent call to action. A significant number of women in Nigeria suffer in silence from those conditions, often worsened by the prevailing ignorance surrounding them.

Through “Beyond MedPlus: The Glow Fest”, Medplus seeks to change this narrative by providing a platform for education, awareness, and empowerment.

The Glow Fest will feature an elevated trade fair experience, Mindfulness & DIY sessions, networking opportunities and a dynamic lineup of panel sessions led by experts from various fields.

On Building Beauty Businesses in Africa, this panel boasts of beauty entrepreneurs like Subuola Oyeleye, founder of Beauty Hut Africa; Onyeka Ugwu, founder of Hello Perfect; Dabota Lawson of Dabota Cosmetics; among others:

The ever-gorgeous Chalya Shagaya, Director General of the National Institute of Archeology and Museums Studies (NIAMS), graced the illustrious launch of Lagos Canvas in classic style.

Sporting a timeless Deola Sagoe masterpiece she first rocked about 20 years ago, Chalya courted attention all night long. The elegant little black dress is made of 2-toned Aso Oke fabric in the brand’s pioneering style.

Championing sustainability while staying fashionable, Chalya paired the blue-black piece with a neutral-toned facebeat, an elegant turban, pretty bracelets, and a gem-embellished court shoe.

In a heartwarming full circle moment, Chalya reunited with the iconic Nigerian designer of her first-ever purchase from the eponymous Deola Sagoe. She is wearing the same outfit from 2006, and it still fits like a glove! Hit the ▶ button below to watch:

Meanwhile, the illustrious event was aptly themed Made in Lagos and Chalya gave fans a backstory to her moment in the spotlight. On Instagram, she wrote regarding the theme:

I’ll explain. I was conceived in Lagos. And born in Lagos. Lagos Island to be precise. At the Lagos Island Maternity in the early 70s (yes!!! 👀 ).

When I got the invitation for the #LagosCanvas event from @moabudu & the United States Consular General Will Stevens in Lagos, I knew there was no way I could go in my birthday suit (😂) seeing as the event was themed “Made in Lagos”, so I opted for my Deola Sagoe number which I purchased nearly 20 years ago. 2006 to be exact. Obviously made in Lagos by @deolasagoeofficial at the then Odua Creations studio in Lagos. So perfect!! #Vintagegold

Now… little did I know that I would bump into the designer and artist (#DeolaSagoe) herself at the event. Her face lit up as we ‘clocked’ each other once I entered the room. I felt such an instant jolt of energy I’m wearing her art and she is appreciating said art on me?

Over 250,000 Benefit from Ounje Eko, Alaafia Eko as Eko Cares Campaign Wraps Up Across 6 Health Districts https://www.bellanaija.com/2024/09/eko-cares-initiative-2024/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 18:29:19 +0000 https://www.bellanaija.com/?p=1670474 Written by the Eko Cares Initiative

The post Over 250,000 Benefit from Ounje Eko, Alaafia Eko as Eko Cares Campaign Wraps Up Across 6 Health Districts appeared first on BellaNaija - Showcasing Africa to the world. Read today!.

]]>

The Eko Care Initiative, spearheaded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Administration, has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the lives of Lagosians through the successful implementation of its Alaafia Eko Healthcare Intervention and the Ounje Eko Food Security scheme.

Both programmes are integral components of the broader Eko Cares Initiative, designed to provide relief in key areas such as health, nutrition, transportation, education, and agriculture, to bring relief and boost the overall quality of life for Lagosians.

Alaafia Eko: Comprehensive Healthcare for Lagosians
The Alaafia Eko programme has successfully delivered accessible and quality healthcare services across the six health districts in Lagos, significantly boosting public health by providing health insurance and free medical outreach. In Phase 1, there were four locations per district while Phase 2 had two locations per district.

These locations were strategically selected within the 6 districts to maximise coverage and accessibility, ensuring that more residents could benefit. The initiative offered a wide range of services, including general consultations, maternal and child healthcare, immunisations, and health education.

By the conclusion of its latest phase in August 2024, Alaafia Eko had served over 19,000 residents, providing much-needed medical care to both the young and the elderly. More than 8,000 individuals received eyeglasses, with many beneficiaries being over the age of 45.

The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, with beneficiaries expressing their excitement, offering prayers, and showing deep gratitude for the care they received. The joy and relief were palpable, as many residents were thankful for the opportunity to access free healthcare services that would have otherwise been out of reach.

Ounje Eko: Ensuring Food Security Amid Economic Challenges
The Ounje Eko scheme is a people-focused intervention to address hunger and ensure food security across Lagos State, especially amidst rising living costs. The scheme which recently entered its second phase, Ounje Eko continues to provide essential food items to vulnerable households, at hugely discounted rates, making a significant impact on vulnerable communities. With over 250,000 beneficiaries already reached, the programme is making staple food items more accessible and affordable for Lagosians.

Ounje Eko operates through three key components: direct food distribution to vulnerable households, to provide staple foods like garri, beans, and rice; the Ounje Eko Free Meal Programme, designed to ensure that the most vulnerable individuals in the state have access to at least one free meal per day; and the Ounje Eko Sunday Markets, where special markets set up across Lagos offer food items at a 25% discount to ease the financial burden on residents.

The Sunday Market scheme has been a game-changer, being the most far-reaching and particularly popular amongst Lagosians, with discounted food items available at 58 strategic locations across the state.

The success of the first phase of Ounje Eko is clear from the impressive milestones achieved, with 125,560 kg of rice, 43,637 kg of beans, 50,028 kg of garri, 222,881 loaves of bread, and 173,480 crates of eggs distributed. The numbers reveal the great impact of the food initiative on the lives of Lagosians.

Expansion and Ongoing Support of Ounje Eko Intervention
With the successful conclusion of Phase 1, Phase 2 aims to expand the reach of Ounje Eko Sunday markets, potentially opening more locations to serve even more Lagosians. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration says it remains committed to maintaining the 25% discount on all food items sold at these markets, reinforcing its dedication to boosting food security, public health, and economic stability.

As Ounje Eko’s second phase rolls out, residents are encouraged to take advantage of these discounted food markets. These initiatives demonstrate the state government’s commitment to the welfare of Lagosians, providing tangible support amid soaring living costs and inflation.

Stay updated on the latest about the Eko Cares Initiative and visit the Ounje Eko Sunday Markets closest to you to benefit from the impactful programme.

Mamador, a leading premium food brand in Nigeria in the Vegetable Oil and Spread segments, has called on Nigerian women to give utmost priority to their wholesome health and maximize the opportunities available with their financial resources.

This was the submission of the Head of Marketing, PZ Wilmar, Chioma Mbanugo who delivered the welcome remarks during the 5th edition of its annual August Meeting held on Friday, August 30, 2024.

Speaking on the theme titled “Nourish to Flourish: Elevating Health and Wealth”, Mbanugo noted that the annual August Women meeting by Mamador is not only a communal gathering but a notable platform to celebrate women for their roles and contributions to society.

She described the August Women meeting as a laudable gesture that attests to the power of togetherness.

“As a brand, Mamador is committed to the financial and physical well-being of Nigerian women nationwide. The old saying that ‘Health is Wealth’ encapsulates our presence here and explains why we should prioritize our health while we try to build wealth. We appreciate everyone for joining us to celebrate Nigerian women who regardless of the limitations, or barriers are the epitome of diligence, resilience, and relentless quest for success,” she said.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Parenting in this Generation’, certified Family and Parenting Coach, Sandra Oluwadare explained that women owe it a duty as shapers and moulders of destinies to be intentional in the way and manner they raise kids. Oluwadare emphasized the need for women to take care of themselves to enable them to confront threats that can hinder them from effectively parenting their kids.

She stated that with the right vision, values, and system and nurturing connection for bonding and influence, women can deliver on their roles as effective parents amidst threats such as digital overload, online safety, social media influence, changing family dynamics, social and academic pressure, and work-life integration among others.

Lending his voice on the topic titled “Health and Food Choices”, health influencer and medical doctor, Egemba Chinonso, popularly known as Aproko Doctor stated that women must endeavour to eat or consume healthy foods if they want to live a healthy life.

Also speaking, award-winning dancer and fitness coach, Kaffy Shafau remarked that women’s minds are critical in keeping healthy lifestyles, urging them to keep fit and take care of their mental health.

Speaking on the topic “Wealth and the Woman”, finance and wealth coach, Sola Adesakin tasked women to understand their priorities and map them out according to their finances.

According to Adesakin, 50% of their earnings should be invested in what they consider necessary while 30% and 20% should be channelled toward savings and personal care and development respectively.

Commenting on the topic “You are a Business”, certified financial education instructor, Tomie Balogun stressed the need for aspiring women entrepreneurs to have a good understanding of business structure and figures as these remain the foundation for sustainable growth, decision-making, and overall success of any business.

“We need to surround ourselves with individuals who understand the challenges we face and can offer mentorship. As business owners, challenges can be powerful motivators for growth, innovation, and success while setbacks come as a learning experience,” Balogun said.

In her remarks, Veteran Nollywood actress, Ngozi Nwosu charged women to be ready and determined to confront challenges that may arise in the cause of their career or their family life.

At the end of the elevator pitch which saw participation from different women entrepreneurs, Vennile Pads emerged winner while Maka Marvi and Farhms Food and Sauce Global came second and third respectively.

The winner of the elevator pitch received a two million naira cash grant while the first runner-up and second runner-up got one million naira and five hundred thousand naira respectively.

This October, the oil-rich city of Port-Harcourt will play host to over three hundred local and international vendors from the textile, apparel, fashion, accessories, design, fine art, beauty, hair, skincare, hospitality, real estate, finance and tech industries in what will eventually become ‘the largest trade show in Sub-saharan Africa’.

In appreciation to the applied arts of fashion and design, Fashion Xperience Festival will host ten private runway shows led by some of Africa’s most creative and exclusive fashion houses, with an encore titled “The AI Fashion Experience” where a selected few will be opportune to witness a futuristic fashion show powered by AI – the first of its kind in Nigeria’s fashion history.

The two days festival will also host two festival parties to celebrate the commercial success of each day and bring together a diverse audience of purveyors and consumers of art to experience our stylishly themed parties.

One of the staples of Fashion Xperience Festival is her Women Entrepreneurs Summit (WE SUMMIT) which doubles as a women empowerment program and a professional business platform for women-led businesses and their founders to launch, relaunch, grow and thrive.

The overall winner of the Exam Success competition, Marilyn Nwachukwu, proudly holds the grand prize.

When Marilyn, the winner of the Airtel-Roducate Exam Success Competition, entered the competition, she probably didn’t expect to win ₦500,000 for herself and her school. The BECE Exam Success Competition was launched to help students in Lagos State private schools prepare for the Basic Certificate Examination 2024.

This initiative was a collaboration between Roducate, Airtel, and the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), using the Airtel-Roducate Exam Success Packs.

The first round of the competition took place online across Lagos on June 18, 2024, despite the rainy Saturday. Over 300 participants from more than 10 LGAs in Lagos logged onto Roducate from the comfort of their homes. By the end of this round, 33 first-round winners emerged from 20 LGAs, each receiving a cash prize of ₦20,000.

The grand finale of the maiden edition of the BECE Exam Success Competition was held on Friday, July 19, 2024. Our 33 winners, accompanied by their parents, guardians, teachers, and school proprietors, filled the hall with anticipation and excitement.

Over ₦1 million was up for grabs. The final assessment was also conducted online, with students logging into Roducate to complete their assessments, hoping to emerge as the overall winner.

In less than 10 minutes after the competition, the results were collated on Roducate, and the top 3 winners were identified.

Marilyn Nwachukwu of Mbari Mbayo School, representing Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, emerged as the overall winner. Ifiok Inyang of D`Cherub Schools, representing Eti-Osa Local Government Area, secured the first runner-up position, while Kelechi Agu of Tombey Schools, representing Kosofe Local Government Area, took the second runner-up position.

Marilyn Nwachuwku embraces her mother after she was announced the winner of the Exam Success Competition

Fostering Roducate’s belief that quality education is a result of community effort, these students won not only for themselves but also for their communities. An additional ₦50,000 was awarded to the parents and teachers of the top winners, and ₦500,000 was given to the overall winner’s school.

L.R. Okachukwu Nwachukwu, the overall winner’s guardian; Femisola Awosika, Group Chief Executive Officer, Roducate; Marilyn Nwachukwu, overall competition winner; Alaka Yusuf Lukman Owolabi, NAPPS Chairman (Lagos State Chapter); and Guruman Iwundu, Head VAS and Carrier Services, Airtel Nigeria.

The success of the BECE Competition’s maiden edition highlighted the need for more such initiatives to support and reward students’ excellent performance. It was undoubtedly a triumph and a testament to the importance of community involvement in education.

Lagos and Abuja, are you ready??? One of the most delicious events of the year is back, and it’s time to treat yourself to a delectable experience because Restaurant Week 2024 is almost here.

Restaurant Week is your golden ticket to explore some of the best eats in town without breaking the bank. Kicking off from November 4th to 24th, you have three weeks of mouthwatering menus, unbeatable prices, and unforgettable dining experiences lined up just for you!

For these three exciting weeks, participating restaurants are rolling out special three-course menus at prices that will make your wallet smile. It’s your chance to discover new spots, fall in love with different flavors, and take time to treat yourself while enjoying the creativity of top chefs ready to delight every palate.

This year’s edition is proudly sponsored by Maltina, Heineken, and Providus Bank, and powered by Awari—the discovery platform by Lost In A City (LIAC). Awari spotlights lifestyle SMEs, like your favorite restaurants, helping them connect with food lovers like you. With this sponsor line-up, you can expect nothing less than a beautiful experience.

Whether you’re a fan of haute cuisine or simply love a good meal in a cozy setting, there’s something for everyone. Starting in 2015 with just a few restaurants, Restaurant Week has grown into a full-blown culinary celebration with over 70 restaurants on board across four price categories.

This year, we have Fine Dining for those who want to go all out with gourmet dishes in swanky settings that will make you feel like royalty; Upscale Casual Dining, where you can enjoy the best of both worlds—chic vibes with comfort food that hits the spot; Casual Dining, perfect for a laid-back meal with friends, where the food is hearty, and the atmosphere is warm; and Savvy Dining, which features budget-friendly gems where flavor and creativity are the stars of the show.

What makes Restaurant Week truly special is the experience! From the moment you walk in to the last bite of dessert, everything is a potential long-lasting memory. It’s time to #SavourTheExperience. The participating restaurants will be featured on Awari, where you’ll find guides on how to make the most of your Restaurant Week adventure.

So, save the date, gather your friends and family, and get ready to embark on a culinary tour!

Jameson, a leading Irish whiskey brand, is thrilled to announce a significant stride towards sustainability. In alignment with parent company Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s commitment to eco-friendliness, Jameson is set to eliminate cartons from its product packaging, marking a substantial reduction in its carbon footprint.

This innovative move is aimed at minimizing waste and reducing the environmental impact of Jameson’s packaging on the environment. The exclusion of the carton casing will significantly decrease the amount of paper and cardboard used in the production process, resulting in an eco-friendly packaging solution. This change will not only reduce waste but also conserve natural resources, aligning with Jameson’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

We are mindful of the environmental impact of our business activities, said, Michael Ehindero, Managing Director, Pernod Ricard Nigeria. The removal of the carton is one more demonstration of our commitment towards protecting the environment through sustainable practices. We are constantly exploring new ways to reduce our carbon footprint, promote environmentally friendly practices throughout our operations, and encourage sustainable consumption.

This initiative is part of Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes reducing energy consumption, waste, and emissions across all its brands. The company is dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment and promoting sustainable development in Nigeria. By working together with suppliers, customers, and stakeholders, Jameson aims to create a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Paul Ricard, one of our founders, used to say that we are responsible for building a better world for future generations, together. He believed that it was our duty. As an organization, we believe that even small changes can make a big difference.

We are aiming to make room for a greener future. By working together, we can reduce our impact on the environment and promote a more sustainable future. This is another facet of our sustainability and responsibility agenda, and we are excited to continue innovating and finding new ways to positively impact our environment added Bodam Taiwo, Head of Portfolio, Bond & Connect, Pernod Ricard Nigeria.

The new, monobox-free Jameson packaging will be available in stores nationwide from July 2024 onwards. This change is a testament to Jameson’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

Entafield Foundation was praised by the Lagos State Government for its Smile Lagos: 1000 Denture Project, which provided dental care to more than 1,000 Lagosians. The project, made possible by the generous support of corporate entities, health-focused NGOs, and medical associations, represents a substantial advancement in the state’s overall health and well-being strategy.

Lagos State’s Deputy Director and Head of the Dental Unit, Dr. Olufunke Lawrence-Ayeni, commended the Entafield Foundation for its dedication to addressing the oral health needs of underserved communities. She emphasized the importance of oral health as a vital component of overall well-being, with far-reaching effects on both physical health and social confidence.

Initiatives like the ‘Smile Lagos’ project are crucial in bridging the gap in oral healthcare delivery, ensuring that essential services reach those who need them most – Dr. Lawrence-Ayeni stated.

She expressed deep appreciation for the work being done through the ‘Smile Lagos’ project, recognizing its broader impact on public health in the state. The project not only addresses oral health but also restores confidence, dignity, and hope for many individuals and families.

In his commendation speech, the Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, Saheed Adesegun Bankole, emphasized the importance of the project, noting the significant challenges many residents face in accessing quality dental care.

He highlighted that the ‘Smile Lagos’ project was designed to bridge this gap by offering free dentures and dental care services that not only improve beneficiaries’ health but also restore their confidence and self-esteem.

The council boss who was represented by his vice, Princess Adeola Adetoro expressed deep appreciation to Entafield Dental Clinic for their dedication to the noble cause and looked forward to the transformative effects the partnership would have on the communities in the local government.

One of the beneficiaries, Peter Olusanya, a pensioner, shared his relief and happiness during the outreach, revealing that he had lost hope of ever restoring his teeth due to financial constraints that had prevented him from seeking dental care.

Today, I have my confidence back. The difference this initiative has made in my life is beyond words, and I am deeply grateful to the entire team at Entafield Dental Clinic, Olusanya said.

Another beneficiary, Janet Adewole, praised the program, stating,

Thanks to Entafield Dental Clinic’s ‘Smile Lagos: 1000 Denture Project,’ my life has completely changed. I can now smile confidently without feeling self-conscious.

Adewole emphasized that the program was a true blessing for many Lagosians like her who never imagined receiving such quality dental care for free. She highlighted the life-changing impact the initiative had on her, restoring her confidence and self-esteem.

During the outreach, the Chief Dental Officer of Entafield Dental Clinic, Dr Cherry Ozoalor, emphasized the project’s significance, noting that it was specifically tailored to address dental health issues that significantly impact individuals’ quality of life and self-esteem.

Our commitment to the well-being of Lagosians extends beyond mere dental care. With the ‘Smile Lagos: 1000 Denture Project,’ we sought to transform lives by enhancing smiles and boosting the confidence of individuals who might otherwise have lacked access to these critical services – Dr. Ozoalor added.

The outreach initiative emphasized the critical role of oral health and the transformative benefits of dental treatments on overall well-being and self-confidence. By providing top-notch dental services to 1,000 people from marginalized communities, the project sought to remove financial barriers, enhance dental appearance, and boost self-assurance, social engagement, and personal and professional prospects.

This event marked the conclusion of a campaign that has significantly impacted the lives and earnings of drivers in Nigeria, further reinforcing inDrive’s commitment to supporting the communities it serves.

As we gather to celebrate the 2024 International Youth Day and the S.M.I.L.E Youth Leadership Summit, we are reminded of the boundless potential that resides within our youth. This year’s theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development,” is not just a catchphrase—it’s a call to action.

It’s a call to recognize the immense power that young people hold in shaping our world, especially in this digital age. Our world has never been more connected. In a world where gender equality is still a work in progress, initiatives like “Women Who Empower” are so vital to the development of the society. The “Women Who Empower” initiative is a collaboration between the Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) and Canon Central and North Africa, to provide women in Nigeria’s creative imaging and print industries the tools and opportunities they need to succeed in their chosen careers.

Through one-month long series of comprehensive workshops and training sessions, WISCAR and Canon have equipped these women with the technical skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in their fields. But that’s not all – they’ve also focused on personal development, equipping participants with the confidence, resilience, and leadership skills needed to take on the world.

As both organizations celebrate the graduation of the latest participants, it serves as a reminder of the profound impact this initiative has had on their lives, from newfound confidence and skills to fresh perspectives and achievements. This is a testament to the power of empowerment and a reminder that, together, both organizations can create a brighter future for all.

The core of the “Women Who Empower” initiative is a series of workshops and training sessions designed to equip the participants with the technical skills and knowledge needed in the creative imaging and print industries. For this edition, Canon’s ambassadors, Daniel Ehimen, a Nigerian cinematographer and director and Emmanuel Oyeleke, a Nigerian lifestyle photographer, led hands-on sessions on various aspects of photography, content creation, and printing, ensuring that the women gained practical experience with the latest equipment and techniques.

The journey ended in a graduation ceremony that was both a celebration of the participants’ achievements and a testament to the programme’s impact. The graduates shared their experiences, highlighting the skills they acquired, the confidence they gained, and the networks they built. Many spoke of how the programme had been a turning point in their lives, opening doors to new opportunities and empowering them to pursue their passions with renewed creativity.

The graduands showcased their works on graduation day in an exhibition. While all the mentees’ works were impressive, two participants stood out. These participants, PR Professional and Photographer, Joy Ngwolo, and PR and Marketing Specialist, Obianuju Lilian Ikegbuene, were encouraged and rewarded for their diligence in creating exceptional photographs through the photography skills acquired during the workshop.

The “Women Who Empower” initiative has been a resounding success, demonstrating the transformative power of partnerships in creating opportunities and breaking down barriers. As we celebrate the achievements of our graduates, we are reminded of the importance of continuing this work and expanding its reach.

Together, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society where women are empowered to lead, innovate, and make a lasting impact. Join the movement and let’s work together to create a world where women can truly thrive; said Founder and Chairperson, WISCAR, Amina Oyagbola.

WISCAR and Canon’s partnership has sparked a wider conversation about women’s roles in the creative industry and the importance of creating opportunities for them to excel. It’s a powerful reminder that, with the right support and resources, women can break through barriers and achieve greatness.

As WISCAR looks to future collaborations, its commitment to empowering women and girls remains unwavering. It is a proof to the transformative power of partnerships and a shining example of what can be achieved when there is a collaboration to uplift and empower women.

Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) believes in the power of empowering women and girls to drive positive change in society and its partnership with Canon exemplifies this belief.
